Thank you very much for your post, for me the option to hold Option button worked perfectly. Update - on MacOS High Sierra: you have to select the file, then hold down option and click the 'Action' (gear) button on the toolbar, to find the 'copy. I had no idea there were so many ways to do this.

The only illegal character for file and folder names in Mac OS X is the colon ':' File and folder names are not permitted to begin with. Because of this, migrating certain files and folders from OS 9 to OS X may cause unexpected behavior.
